An internal storage backplane (not a controller or card) Serves as the central connection point for up to 16 drives Interfaces between: Hard drives / SSDs RAID controller (PERC) or HBA System power supply

- Supports up to 16 × 2.5" SAS or SATA drives
- Provides: Power distribution to all drives Data routing via SAS connections to controller Enables hot-swappable drive operation (replace drives without shutting down)
