The Cisco Nexus 2348TQ 10GE Fabric Extender (FEX) is a high‑density 10 Gigabit expansion module designed to extend the port capacity of Cisco Nexus parent switches such as the Nexus 5500, 5600, or 6000 Series. Instead of acting as a standalone switch, it functions as a remote line‑card style interface, providing a large number of Ethernet ports that connect back to the main Nexus switch for centralized management and switching logic.

Features:

• 48 × 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE‑T) RJ‑45 ports for high‑speed copper connections to servers or network devices. 6 × 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ ports for uplinks to the parent Nexus switch — enabling high‑bandwidth backhaul.
• Fabric throughput: Up to 240 Gbps in each direction (480 Gbps full duplex) over the uplink fabric. Deep buffering and hardware‑based packet forwarding for data‑center workloads
• Part of the Cisco Nexus 2300 Platform Fabric Extenders, which extend the reach of Cisco Nexus switches rather than performing independent switching.
• Centralized management and control is done by the parent Nexus switch, and the FEX has no standalone switching intelligence.
